Below, we have answered a few of the most commonly asked questions. Please contact us with any additional questions or to set up a time to provide you with a free estimate.

If done myself, won't I save money on labor?
Not necessarily. Most do-it-yourselfers initially look at it as sweat equity, but how much experience do you have at lighting design and layout? Are you prepared to spend a weekend installing the system, then digging up the lawn again to find a loose connection or to replace a defective fixture? What if a wire gets cut with lawn equipment? Isn't your time worth more than the aggravation?

I tried, and failed, to do my own lighting system. Can you help me fix it?

At Artistic Lighting Design, we have removed "do-it-yourself" outdoor light systems. The light duty transformers and plastic light fixtures simply do not hold up under extended use.

What can you tell me about the transformers ALD uses?

At Artistic Lighting Design, we use high quality stainless steel or powder coated multi tap transformers. We back these with a full lifetime warranty. Most transformers purchased at a do-it-yourself center are stamped steel or plastic and only offer limited warranties. The multi-tap transformers offer variable voltage regulation, so your project will have the correct voltage at every fixture. Do-it-yourself products only have one 12-volt tap, providing an inferior installation. We use good transformers because quality is our trademark.

What types of light bulbs do you use?

We use precision halogen bulbs for all of our projects. We eliminate the time wasted in replacing cheap, short-lived light bulbs by providing the highest-quality bulbs to our clients.

What types of fixtures do you use?

Our fixtures are made from quality metal with powder-coated finishes. We deal with a number of manufacturers so you have lots of styles to choose from. We stand behind our top-of-the-line fixtures. What about your ground stakes?
Artistic Lighting Design uses heavy-duty ABS ground stakes to provide the maximum support for your new outdoor lighting system. Our ground stakes will not corrode or bond to the fixture itself. Moreover, our stakes suffer minimal breakage, resulting in increased longevity of the light fixture.

I've got a good eye for detail. Can't I just design my lighting project myself?

Of course. But is it going to have the same dramatic, elegant effect achieved by professional lighting landscape designers? They have the training, tools, experience, and materials to dramatically maximize the beauty and dimension of your property. And if you have specific ideas about the look of your home, we can certainly explore the possibilities during your design consultation. We work with our customers to create custom-designed plans to fit every need.

Will I see any ugly cords or installation equipment in my yard?

Absolutely not. We use a hidden installation process that guarantees no lines or cords will intrude into your lawn and/or surrounding shrubs and planters. No need to worry about running over those cords with the lawn mower because they simply won't be there. We guarantee our installation for one year. After the first year we will provide reasonably priced service.

Do you follow up on projects?

Yes. We routinely inspect completed projects to ensure maintenance, functionality, and customer satisfaction is insured. Our satisfied customers are testament to our commitment to quality and excellent service.

Will you come to my property after dark?

Yes! In fact, this is the absolute best way to obtain the best overview of how you would like your landscape lighted. With a night demonstration, you have complete control over the design process. Every light is precisely placed to achieve the look you prefer. You get to see the product in action before ever making a purchase.

Do you use energy-efficient lighting?

Absolutely. Our promise of quality extends to even our selection of the light bulb itself. We use energy-friendly and efficient halogen light bulbs of the highest quality to reduce the time you spend changing cheap lights.

Do you offer a maintenance program?

Yes, we want your project to look as good as the day it was installed year after year. We will maintain that look by ensuring the fixture are cleaned and aimed properly. When the time comes to change the bulbs we will take care of it for you. So sit back and enjoy your night scenes.

“We lost our home in the 2003 Firestorm, so the house and yard were a total rebuild. Once the house was up, the back area looked pretty sparse because of all the trees that were taken down.

The new lighting compliments the new shrubbery and gives the yard a finished look. The back lights are kid friendly, well away from the pool and cast enough light for the kids to play outside when it's dark.

She also did the front of our house and the lighting along the driveway makes our home look warm and inviting. I'm very impressed with Lesley's work.

Artistic Lighting Design was very professional and did a beautiful job. Our friends and neighbours are so impressed with how the yard looks now; it's beautiful year round. In the winter, I love the way the lights shine off the snow on the shrubs and little trees. In the summer it makes the area useable day or night.

We highly recommend Lesley McCallum. She stands by her work and gives prompt service.”
